What do these players have in common with Rafael Nadal?

Once you have read through this post you will agree that Rafael Nadal won the US Open 2022 without actually winning the title

Rafael Nadal’s impact in all the divisions of the 2022 US Open finals has been irrefutable. With Iga Swiatek, Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud, Martin de la Puente, Alexandra Eala & Martin Landaluce making it to the finals in their respective categories, one can’t help but notice the common denominator – Rafael Nadal.

The tennis star himself has had a formidable show at the Grand Slams this year. The 22-time Major winner surpassed his own beliefs by winning a 2nd Australian Open title. He trailed that success by bagging his 14th Roland Garros title. At Wimbledon, Rafa fought his way through to the semifinals but pulled out from the final four citing an abdominal muscle tear. Barring his 4th-round US Open loss against Frances Tiafoe, Nadal was undefeated at the Majors this year.

Nadal’s onerous drive on the big stages is a glimpse into the work ethic he is imparting oh-so effectively to his students & admirers alike. His resilience, grit, and readiness to play each point with as much confidence was what set him apart from the rest. His talents can now be seen trickling into the younger generations.

One can observe that Rafael Nadal’s tennis academy in Mallorca, which was started in late 2016, has already begun to produce ground-breaking results.

Alexandra Eala, a student at the Rafa Nadal Academy, won the US Open girls’ title at the US Open 2022. Alexandra Eala has become the first player from the Philippines to achieve this momentous feat.

Meanwhile, Martin Landaluce, yet another of Rafael Nadal’s students, walked away with the 2022 US Open boys’ title.
In wheelchair tennis, Martin de la Puente was crowned with the 2022 US Open men’s doubles title. The young Spaniard cited that Rafael Nadal is one of the players he looks up to and tries to imitate.

Casper Ruud has borne exceptional results since joining the Rafa Nadal Academy. The 23-year-old already has 9 titles to his name and had ended as the runner-up at this year’s Roland Garros and most recently the US Open. The youngster has now advanced ahead of Rafael Nadal to become the new World No. 2.

Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz, meanwhile, overpowered Ruud in the 2022 US Open final to claim his first Grand Slam title & also the World No. 1 ranking. He is now the youngest player in ATP history to reach this top spot. Alcaraz has been equated to his older compatriot ever since he first seized fame-hood. Although the teenager is scripting his own history, the resemblances in their approach to the sport are undeniable.

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has already proven herself as an invincible player on the WTA tour, winning 3 Grand Slams, 2 of them, this year. The 21-year-old’s 2022 US Open title demonstrated that she is ready to surmount even when not playing to the best of her capability. Swiatek, a self-declared fan of Rafael Nadal’s, has taken motivation from the Spaniard in this regard.

Coco Gauff emerges as US Open title favourite

Coco Gauff emerges as US Open title favourite after impressive victory over Madison Keys

Coco Gauff emerges as US Open title favourite after impressive victory over Madison Keys : Coco Gauff conquered fellow American Madison Keys 6-2 6-3 and progressed to the pre quarter finals round of the US Open for the 1st time.

After dropping serve at the very start of the match, the super agile Gauff quickly took control, won four games one after the other and kept Madison Keys rattled from there on. Playing in the 3rd round at her home major for the 7th time, Madison Keys protected two break/set points at 5-2 down, but the skilled American simply avoided the inevitable as Coco Gauff grabbed the deserved prize on her 3rd set point.

There were authoritative groundstrokes on both sides, as if we were viewing a men’s tennis match.

The tipping point was that Gauff moved better and looked more hungry and that is perhaps what kept her motivated for this 3rd round victory. At times she looked like a predator running towards prey.

The 18-year-old Gauff, feeling buoyant in her signature New Balance sneakers, raced to a 4-1 lead in the second set and it didn’t seem like Madison Keys would get an opportunity to turn things around.

However, Keys took advantage of Gauff’s moments of weakness, and served to level the second set to 4-4. This flare of the 20th seed’s possible revival was quickly put out by Gauff, as the teenager retained her absolute supremacy.

If she keeps this game quality, Coco Gauff is DANGEROUS! In the previous round, the 12th seed hit the third-fastest serve in US Open history!

Andy Murray Pissed off at Tsitsipas’ Unfair Gamesmanship

The Briton protested about what he thought was unfair gamesmanship by the French Open runner-up and proclaimed: I lost respect for him

Andy Murray is aware that Greek top seed has a growing repute for pushing the limits when it comes to taking breaks during a match.

Murray figures there was ample for him to contend with in Monday’s high heat and humidity: He’s 34. He’s got a synthetic hip. He’s ranked 112th after a string of fitness issues.

At one stage, he fell to the ground, losing his balance in sweat-soaked shoes and leaving specks on the blue court from his damp clothing.

So as the match stretched to almost 5 hours, Murray was not at all happy that Tsitsipas took a medical break after the 3rd set and made a prolonged visit to the locker room after the fourth. Following an engaging, back-and-forth 2-6, 7-6 (7), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 loss to Tsitsipas, Murray grumbled about what he thought off as unfair gamesmanship by the Greek and literally state that “I lost respect for him”.

Told of Murray’s anger, the just-turned-23 Tsitsipas said, “If there’s something that he has to tell me, we should speak, the two of us, to kind of understand what went wrong. I don’t think I broke any rules.”

With departures for Murray and 2014 winner Marin Cilic, who halted the match abruptly because of an injury in the 5th set against Philipp Kohlschreiber, the only man left in the draw after Day One with even one Grand Slam title is No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic will debut Tuesday night as he tries to break a tie for the men’s mark of 20 majors with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer and become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to complete a calendar-year Grand Slam.

Can Novak Djokovic Achieve The Calendar Grand Slam

Can Novak Djokovic Achieve The Calendar Grand Slam

Can Novak Djokovic Achieve The Calendar Grand Slam – Greatest Feat in Men’s Tennis

Novak Djokovic is on brink of greatest tennis success before US Open. No man has secured a calendar grand slam in the tri-surface era but the Novak Djokovic’s assurance in five-set matches is astounding.

Perhaps the strongest measure of Djokovic’s eminence, as he prepares for the most significant shot he will ever have at bagging tennis’s greatest achievement, the calendar grand slam, is that he has already attained a near equivalent feat.

Djokovic’s run of 4 successive grand slam titles between Wimbledon in 2015 and the French Open a year later already stands apart as one of the sport’s biggest ever accomplishments.

Prior to this, no man had won 4 grand slams in a row since Rod Laver in 1969.

No other man in history has ever held all four Grand Slam titles at once since they were introduced 3 different surfaces.

The Grand Slam symbolizes the zenith of professional tennis, but aside from the symbolism of winning the whole lot in one neat calendar year and the pressure that comes with it at the end, the level of effort between what Djokovic has previously achieved and what he is chasing in New York is similar.
He may not have had to win the Roland Garros and Wimbledon back-to-back during that succession of wins, but Djokovic had to be at the peak of his game over a period of eleven months instead of the 7-month grand slam season this year.

Yet, at the time, the achievement did not receive the true recognition it deserved. It was partly because of just how the news r rather the narrative was being played out – when Djokovic defeated Andy Murray at the French Open in 2016, much of the news centered on him finally winning the French Open title that had eluded him for so long. It was also a sign of a sport not quite appreciating its shifting ground as Djokovic began to close in on Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at speed.

Today, there is no uncertainty. In March, Novak Djokovic became the ATP record holder for weeks at No 1. By winning the Roland Garros in June, he has now won all 4 majors, Masters 1000 events and ATP Finals twice, a staggering feat that no one else has even managed once.
At Wimbledon, he levelled up with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on 20 grand slam titles. He has spent this season meticulously making his case as the greatest of all time.

Even if Djokovic wins the 2021 edition of the US Open, it could be said that this is not actually his finest overall season. In 2015, he was at his amazing physical peak, demolishing all who entered his path both in and out of grand slam tournaments. He ended the year with an 82-6 (93.2%) track record, making it to the final of every major and rising to an ATP record points sum of 16,950 after the 2016 Roland Garros. He faced Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray 19 times in 2015, winning 15 encounters.

Serena Williams upbeat about the US Open

Serena Williams upbeat about the US Open as she recovers from her leg injury

Serena Williams upbeat about the US Open : Serena Williams’ agent Jill Smoller has given a short but upbeat update on her client’s health. According to Smoller, Serena is undergoing physiotherapy and hopes to be back in time for the last Grand Slam of the year – the US Open.

Williams sustained an injury to her right leg after stumbling on court during her 1st-round match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich in London at Wimbledon 2021. The 23-time Major champion received therapy but was incapable to resume and conceded the match to the Belarusian.

The American star did not disclose the magnitude of her injury at the time, and neither did her coach Patrick Mouratoglou. Nevertheless, Mouratoglou did reveal that Serena Williams was able to walk, suggesting that the injury was not as severe as originally feared.

Now, Serena’s agent Jill Smoller, in a new chat with TMZ Sports, declared that the 39-year-old is “doing great.”

“She’s doing great,” Jill Smoller said when asked how Williams is feeling.

Jill Smoller was then requested to give an update regarding William’s return to the tour. Smoller said the Serena was presently undergoing treatment, but seemed convinced that the World No. 16 will be fit in time for the US Open.
Serena Williams won the US Open in 2014 and has not been able to rise to the same task again, hopefully 2021 could hold another win for her.

Serena Williams has a glittering track record at Flushing Meadows, despite last winning the title in 2014.

Since her initial US Open title in 1999, the American has added 5 more titles in New York to take her overall tally to six, one short of her haul the Australian Open and the Wimbledon.

Since securing the title for the 3rd time in 2008, the American has never lost prior to the semifinals in New York. During this phase, she has managed 3 runner-up finishes (2011, 2018 & 2019), 4 semifinal finishes (2009, 2015, 2016 & 2020) and 3 title-winning campaigns (2012, 2013 & 2014),

While Serena has secured more titles during this phase at the Australian Open – Melbourne (4) and Wimbledon – London (5), she has also experienced quite a few early exits. William’s record at Roland Garros – Paris stands at two titles in Paris since 2008, but she has also crashed out 7 times prior to the last 16.

Serena’s fans have been starved and are looking forward to this US Open quite eagerly in the hope to see her triumph for one more time at Flushing meadows.
