Garbine Muguruza wishes you a Happy New Year

World No. 3 Garbine Muguruza reached out to all her fans in the most loving fashion through social media.

In this video she is seen raising a toast and bidding farewell to 2021 and wishing her fans all the best for a great 2022. She is speaking in her signature Spanish style.

Muguruza said she is not fixated on returning to the world No. 1 ranking. The two-time Grand Slam champion, got the number 1 ranking for the first time after the 2017 US Open. After finishing that season with a triumph at the WTA Finals, Muguruza climbed to the top spot.

Muguruza in a recent interview told RTVE that she prefers to focus on winning tournaments and raising glasses, because you can touch that and that she is not obsessed about regaining the number one spot.

Muguruza was happy and grateful to have tasted success in a challenging 2021.

Muguruza made it to the last round in 5 tournaments in 2021 and captured three titles. The season itself wasn’t straightforward because there were many guidelines and protocols imposed.

“The truth is that it has been a great year, and that has been hard because there have been a lot of new procedures, bubbles, at first on empty stadiums, then with some audience,” Muguruza noted.

“It’s been a packed season with the Olympics included as well. It has been a year with many challenges, but at the same time, very rewarding for me.”

Muguruza didn’t enjoy triumphs at the Grand Slam level in 2021 but still she felt it was the best season of her run so far.

Serena Williams has been literally dictating her way around the tennis courts for years and now. It is only off late that she is facing stiff competition.

There are talks going around that she would be retiring soon from pro tennis.

She has truly impressed former boxing champion and living legend Mike Tyson with her skills with the gloves on.

Mike Tyson tweeted a video where he is seen giving Serena, who he describes as the “Greatest Of All Time”, some pointers before he holds up a boxing bag while she practices her punches. “Wouldn’t want to get in the ring with this GOAT @serenawilliams,” he tweeted with an appropriate boxing glove icon/emoji.

Serena Williams starts off with a simple “left-right” sequence and slowly increases her tempo.

She is heard making her signature rumbles as she smashes the punching bag. She goes on and on with boundless energy and finally when she is done, she backs away and catches her breath.

Needless to say, fans were fascinated by the video.

“Wow, amazing video. The great Mike Tyson and the great Serena Williams. Two of my favorite athletes of all time. Serena has some power. I think she could be a pro boxer,” a user tweeted.

23-time Grand Slam champion and younger of the Williams sisters, Serena, is a popular character both on and off the court.

She is presently promoting the forthcoming film, ‘King Richard’- that is based on the life of her father, Richard Williams.

Intriguingly, distinguished Hollywood star Will Smith is playing the role of Richard in the film.

The always fun-loving Serena Williams was recently involved in a funny situation.

She was preparing for a show and was almost ready for the shoot when suddenly something awkward happened to her. And this was how she expressed herself:

While getting all made up for the show, Serena unintentionally ripped her pants from the rear end.

She sat on the chair and the trousers were so tight that they were broke apart at the seams just before the show.

It was both an embarrassing and hilarious moment for the former World No.1 player and she exploded into laughter after the incident took place. And this is what she had to say:

“Why! Why! I promise you, these things only happen to me!” exclaimed Serena.

Even though her slacks got ripped, Serena didn’t halt the show but instead she took to social media to let her fans laugh along with her. And while doing so she taught her fans a useful life hack.

She revealed how the crisis could be resolved by easily wearing a jacket around one’s waist and then wearing the coat over it in order to conceal the torn section.

Later, she stressed that no matter what happens, the show must go on.

“The show must go on, no matter what, the show must go on,” said the 40-year-old.

We all know Serena is known for her positive attitude. In this instance she transformed a potentially humiliating incident into a funny one and in fact imparted a hack to her fans. Such is her genius!

Fans haven’t seen their favourite Serena Williams on the court for quite some time now. It seems that she won’t play any professional tennis for at least a couple of weeks and may only make a comeback at the Australian Open 2022.

The bigger question that is doing the round is that will she win her 24th Grand Slam title before hanging her tennis racquets for good?

In the meanwhile, the twenty-time Grand Slam champion was seen in his hometown, playing tennis with children on the streets of Belgrade.

There was a brief clip published on social media. where one can see Novak Djokovic playing tennis on the streets of Belgrade. He was clad in blue denim jeans and was wearing a massive black jacket. The weather condition appeared to be overcast and the streets appear to be somewhat wet after a light shower.

Novak Djokovic is an incredible sportsman

Over the years, Novak Djokovic has been a pretty sporting personality who loves to indulge in activities that would make his fans really happy. He has been doing this time and again and this time he was seen playing casual tennis on the streets on Christmas with kids from his hometown.

He is one of the few players who literally wears his heart on his sleeve.

Coming to professional tennis, Novak Djokovic will not be part of the Serbian contingent at the ATP Cup 2022.
Now that his participation in the ATP Cup has been clarified, it will be interesting to see in the coming days if he issues a statement with regard to him upholding his title in Melbourne at the Australian Open 2022.

Nevertheless, one cannot hide from the extraordinary season the Serbian star has had in 2021.

He registered one of his most memorable seasons, taking away the first three Grand Slam titles in style.

By achieving this, he is tied with rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on 20 Slams each.

Sadly, he could not win the US Open in 2021 and lost in a thrilling match to Daniil Medvedev in the final.

The Australian Open officials confirmed that a very modest proportion of players and officials would be given medical exemption to enter Melbourne Park unvaccinated, boosting hopes that Djokovic could compete in the opening major of the year without revealing his COVID-19 vaccination status.

World No.1 seed Novak Djokovic may well be given medical exemption to compete in the Australian Open, which is scheduled to start on January 17, even though tournament director Craig Tiley did not shed light on any development with regards to the Serbian’s participation.

Earlier, the Australian Open planners had said that no health exemptions would be granted to players unless there was a legitimate reason.

But a few days back, Tiley conceded that some people would be granted an exemption. “The good thing is that everyone [coming to Melbourne Park) is vaccinated,” said Tiley. “Everyone who is coming in is vaccinated and there will be a small percentage that will have a medical exemption.”

The funny fact about this entire debate on Novak Djokovic’s vaccination status is that no one really knows if he has been vaccinated or not. The Serb has decided to keep that part a big secret. There is a 50% chance that he has been vaccinated already. That being the case, then why is he keeping it a secret?

Tiley also said he was positive that Rafael Nadal will recover in time and will play in Melbourne despite testing positive for COVID-19.

Eugenie Bouchard seemed all set to have a great season in 2021 after she reached the final in Guadalajara in March. Sadly, the Canadian player had to take a few steps back due to a shoulder injury. Genie opted to go through with a surgery and start a long recovery that will bring her back to the professional tour, optimistically around early 2022.

During a recent Q&A session, Genie confessed that she was terrified before the surgical procedure since that would have been the first time she would go under.

“Full Anaesthesia. I was so scared beforehand cuz I’ve never been under. But the whole thing went flawlessly. However, when I came to after the surgery I kinda freaked out and was super emotional lol,” said Genie Bouchard.

Bouchard also revealed that her mother got a video of her post surgery emotional reaction and that she is going to post one day.
