Can Novak Djokovic Achieve The Calendar Grand Slam

Can Novak Djokovic Achieve The Calendar Grand Slam

Can Novak Djokovic Achieve The Calendar Grand Slam – Greatest Feat in Men’s Tennis

Novak Djokovic is on brink of greatest tennis success before US Open. No man has secured a calendar grand slam in the tri-surface era but the Novak Djokovic’s assurance in five-set matches is astounding.

Perhaps the strongest measure of Djokovic’s eminence, as he prepares for the most significant shot he will ever have at bagging tennis’s greatest achievement, the calendar grand slam, is that he has already attained a near equivalent feat.

Djokovic’s run of 4 successive grand slam titles between Wimbledon in 2015 and the French Open a year later already stands apart as one of the sport’s biggest ever accomplishments.

Prior to this, no man had won 4 grand slams in a row since Rod Laver in 1969.

No other man in history has ever held all four Grand Slam titles at once since they were introduced 3 different surfaces.

The Grand Slam symbolizes the zenith of professional tennis, but aside from the symbolism of winning the whole lot in one neat calendar year and the pressure that comes with it at the end, the level of effort between what Djokovic has previously achieved and what he is chasing in New York is similar.
He may not have had to win the Roland Garros and Wimbledon back-to-back during that succession of wins, but Djokovic had to be at the peak of his game over a period of eleven months instead of the 7-month grand slam season this year.

Yet, at the time, the achievement did not receive the true recognition it deserved. It was partly because of just how the news r rather the narrative was being played out – when Djokovic defeated Andy Murray at the French Open in 2016, much of the news centered on him finally winning the French Open title that had eluded him for so long. It was also a sign of a sport not quite appreciating its shifting ground as Djokovic began to close in on Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at speed.

Today, there is no uncertainty. In March, Novak Djokovic became the ATP record holder for weeks at No 1. By winning the Roland Garros in June, he has now won all 4 majors, Masters 1000 events and ATP Finals twice, a staggering feat that no one else has even managed once.
At Wimbledon, he levelled up with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on 20 grand slam titles. He has spent this season meticulously making his case as the greatest of all time.

Even if Djokovic wins the 2021 edition of the US Open, it could be said that this is not actually his finest overall season. In 2015, he was at his amazing physical peak, demolishing all who entered his path both in and out of grand slam tournaments. He ended the year with an 82-6 (93.2%) track record, making it to the final of every major and rising to an ATP record points sum of 16,950 after the 2016 Roland Garros. He faced Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray 19 times in 2015, winning 15 encounters.

Maria Sharapova from Chernobyl to Trophies and Fashion Magazines

Maria Sharapova from Chernobyl to Trophies and Fashion Magazines

Maria Sharapova from Chernobyl to Trophies and Fashion Magazines : Maria Sharapova turned pro in 2001 and by 2006, she was one of the greatest tennis stars in the world.

It was during that time, the start of Maria Sharapova’s golden period, 16 years back that she was in the limelight and she was also featured in the Sports Illustrated. That 2006 issue became one of the iconic Swimsuit issues and is remembered by all her fans till date.

https://youtu.be/tmncWh6W2bM

Over the years, several prominent players have posed for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.

In 2021, tennis star Naomi Osaka was showcased on one of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit covers. Osaka was the first Haitian and Japanese woman to appear on the cover of the iconic publication.

Sharapova is clearly one of the favourite athletes to be featured in the 2006 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.

But very few of her fans may know that before she was holding trophies and featuring in fashion magazines, Maria Sharapova lived in post-Chernobyl Belarus.

Maria was born in Serbia, on April 26, 1987, almost exactly a year after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster which forever changed the landscape of Eastern Europe. Soon after Sharapova was born her family moved the town of Gomel, Belarus until fallout from Chernobyl affected the town forcing them to shift to Sochi.

It was in Sochi that Maria’s father became friends with the father of Yevgeny Kaflnikov, the 1st Russian tennis player to be named number one in the world.

This friendship with the Kaflnikov family is where Maria’s tennis story started. She received her first racket from Yevegeny’s father in 1991 and she instantaneously showed that she may have a future with the sport.

In 1994, incapable of speaking even a word of English and with very little money, the Sharapova’s moved to the United States without Maria’s mother who was delayed for 2 years due to Visa issues. Maria’s father, Yuri Sharapova, worked various low paying blue collar jobs to pay for her lessons until she was old enough to be admitted to the Bollettieri’s institute.

In 1995, the then nine year old Maria got a fantastic break when IMG signed her to a deal that would underwrite all the costs for tuition at the Bollettieri academy.

Sharapova’s talent and extremely good looks placed her among the world’s most famous and profitable athletes right after her win at Wimbledon.

She has featured in renowned magazines like Sports Illustrated, People, and Maxim almost right away after her first major title.

She also has mega endorsement deals from Gatorade, Tropicana, Canon and Nike.

Presently Maria Sharapova has retired from pro tennis and has taken on a new entrepreneurial career.

Roger Federer Emotional & Realistic Video Announcing a 3rd Knee Surgery

Roger Federer Emotional & Realistic Video Announcing a 3rd Knee Surgery | Wishing Him a Speedy Recovery

Roger Federer to go through a third knee surgery and is expected to be out of the scene for many months”

Roger Federer has revealed that he will be going ahead with yet another surgery on his knee in the coming days, which will keep him away from the game for “a long time”.
Federer posted a video on Instagram, where he explained the reasoning behind his decision to have a third knee surgery.

https://youtu.be/u4vSYIjFyHM

Needless to say, the Swiss maestro has, with this revelation, also ruled himself out of this year’s edition of the US Open.

Roger Federer first got his right knee injured during the 2020 Australian Open, for which he underwent surgery. The 20-time grand slam champion then suffered a setback within a couple of months of recuperation, which required a 2nd procedure.

After that it took Federer several months to regain his fitness, and he made his return at the Qatar Open this year. Everything appeared to be going good for the Swiss over the next couple of months, but he injured the knee again during his Wimbledon quarterfinal defeat to Hubert Hurkacz.

Now it is obvious that the damage is much more severe than most people initially imagined. Federer stated in his video that he would require to be on props for “many weeks” after the surgery, essentially ruling him out for a lengthy period.

No reason why Roger Federer won’t come back after a 3rd knee surgery, he still has the “will and energy” to keep playing: Marc Rosset

Former Olympic champion Marc Rosset is of the opinion that Roger Federer’s return to the tour centers on how well his third surgery goes. Rosset reckons that Federer surpassed hopes at Wimbledon and that he still has the yearning to keep playing and winning. In short Roger is not done yet!

Robert De Niro Snubs Roger Federer

Robert De Niro Snubs Roger Federer : Robert De Niro rubbishes a proposal from Roger Federer to be a part of a Switzerland Tourism spotlight.

The Oscar-winning American actor justifies his refusal by stating that “Switzerland is just too perfect. ”

Watch how Federer gets snubbed by De Niro:

https://youtu.be/uA3UvMhWAA8

Switzerland remains one of the planet’s most cherished tourist destinations. But, Robert De Niro looks at it differently and you cannot imagine how diverse a thought process a film maker/actor could have.

The Oscar-winning American acting icon snubbed Federer by outright refusing to be a part of the tourism spot for Switzerland because “there’s no drama, absolutely no drama at all.”

De Niro conveyed this to Roger Federer, tennis superstar and the latest Switzerland Tourism (ST) ambassador, over a video call. In the video call, it can be seen that Federer is trying his best verbal pitch to depict the glory of Switzerland to De Niro; an effort to make him says yes, but he doesn’t budge.

“Switzerland is just too flawless”, remarks a disturbed De Niro and sums up why you should visit the Alpine nation.

Roger Federer joins hands with Switzerland Tourism as its brand ambassador.

Earlier this year, Federer became Switzerland Tourism’s official ambassador. “I have always felt, every time I step on the court, I am representing my country Switzerland. Each Time it says my name, there is a Swiss flag next to it. I have been very gratified to do that for the first twenty two years I have been on tour, and it will always be like that. To join forces with Switzerland Tourism now is a rational and compelling step for me.”

A special reference goes to another Oscar-winning American actor when De Niro tells Federer, “Maybe call Hanks.” De Niro was obviously implying Tom Hanks, who is deemed as one of the nicest people in the acting business.

It is over a year since the formal retirement of the erstwhile Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova.

The gorgeous Siberian athlete can surely be remembered as one of the greatest tennis players ever, she is one of the few to have won the Career Grand Slam and many other accolades in her career.

2020 was not only the year of her retirement, it was also the year when she announced her official engagement with a well-known British entrepreneur and businessman, Alexander Glikes.

Towards the latter part of pro tennis career, Sharapova started focussing on her business, Sugarpova, a company specializing in a variety of confectionery.

Apart from this her social media activity and popularity has erupted in recent days.

She was always a popular figure on social media but the interest in her activities has seen a dramatic upswing ever since she retired.

Some time back Sharapova had posted a video on social media where she (probably promoting a fitness product) demonstrates how she trains and keeps fit working out at home.

The session is highlighted by fast-feet drills, medicine ball slams, single arm rows and some that will no doubt boost her agility on court.

It’s enough to motivate anyone into getting active and moving into the gym with rejuvenated gusto.
