Sydney woman clarifies why she showed middle finger to Rafael Nadal

‘Bored’ tennis fan from Sydney finally clarifies why she acted in the way she did but no apology has been forthcoming.

There was pandemonium at the Rod Laver Arena on Thursday while Rafael Nadal was competing against American Michael Mmoh when a fan interrupted Nadal’s serve and presented him a middle finger.

The woman, who was subsequently evicted from the Rod Laver Arena on Thursday for showing the middle finger to Rafael Nadal while he was mid-way in a game against American Michael Mmoh at the 2021 Australian Open, has explained why she shouted out at the twenty-time Grand Slam champion.

Talking to an Australian broadcasting station, the woman said that she was downing some “bubbly” before her outburst. She also added that she found Rafael Nadal “extremely” uninteresting to watch.

The woman, who hails from Sydney is a huge Elina Svitolina fan and she said she “stuck around” at Rod Laver Arena after watching Elina Svitolina and Coco Gauff, when questioned why she was viewing Nadalā€™s match if she didnā€™t like him.

“Itā€™s probably not a good look for me,” she confessed. She also said that her daughter “wasn’t too pleased” with what she’d done.

The unpleasant incident took place when Rafael Nadal was 5-4 up in the second set and he was preparing to serve for the match when the lady started making noise, which hindered Nadal’s serve.
Another explanation provided was that she was probably irritated with Nadalā€™s OCD behaviour before he serves.

All said and done and whether she was just bored or irritated the way she behaved has absolutely no logical reasoning. And if she considers herself a respectable Australian tennis fan then the least she could have done is to tender some form of (verbal) apology or regret. We havenā€™t seen or read any such admission of guilt anywhere in the media.

Cameron Norrie seeks Andy Murrayā€™s advice

Cameron Norrie seeks Andy Murrayā€™s advice | Nadal is not taking anything for granted

Cameron Norrie seeks Andy Murrayā€™s advice | Nadal is not taking anything for granted

Ahead of Rafael Nadal clash, Cameron Norrie says he’ll “message Andy Murray & see what his thoughts are”

Cameron Norrie will confront Rafael Nadal for the 1st time ever in the 3rd round of the 2021 Australian Open on Saturday. And during his post-match interview after defeating Roman Safiulin in the 2nd round, Norrie divulged that he may possibly seek countryman Andy Murrayā€™s advice to help him find a way past Nadal.

Andy Murray has played Rafael Nadal 24 times in his tenure, winning on seven occassions. The famous Brit was once part of the famed ‘Big 4’ of men’s tennis, alongside Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

Cameron Norrie believes that his highly experienced compatriot may have a few tips on how to penetrate and dominate Rafael Nadalā€™s offence. However, the point to note here is that Murray has a totally different style and temperament then Norrie. We have to wait and see how much of this advice actually aids Norrie in the match today.

ā€œI mean, that (texting Andy Murray for advice) would certainly be a good thing to do,ā€ Norrie said. ā€œIā€™m going to leave (the game strategy) up to my coach, but maybe message Andy Murray and see what his thought process is at this point. We play clearly pretty different, me being left handed, but he’s undeniably got some good tips in there.ā€

Britain’s Cameron Norrie clashes with world No 2 Rafael Nadal of Spain in the last match on Rod Laver Arena on Saturday (around 9.30-10am GMT).
Cameron Norrieā€™s praise for Rafael Nadal shows his respect. He mentioned that the Mallorcanā€™s game was largely flawless. The Brit emphasized on the significance of dictating the play against Nadal, because the Mallorcan never dithers to take the initiative.

ā€œI think (Nadal has) apparently not really got many flaws, so I’m just gonna have to do what I do as well as I can and execute my game and strive to play the points on my terms,ā€ Norrie said. ā€œOtherwise if he’s the one controlling the game, it’s gonna be difficult and I’m gonna be running around a lot.”

Cameron Norrie has never competed against any member of the ‘Big 3’ before. The Brit has also never made it past the 3rd round of any Grand Slam to date.

That, coupled with Nadalā€™s remarkable record, makes Cameron Norrie the clear second best in this fixture.

Given that Norrie is the underdog, many believe that he has nothing to lose and will go out all guns blazing against Rafael Nadal. However, the Nadal contended that Norrie still has something to lose.

ā€œThat’s an old saying, nothing to lose, but donā€™t forget, he has a match to lose or to win, the same like me,ā€ Nadal said.
Rafael Nadal added that he anticipates a difficult challenge from Cameron Norrie, since 3rd-round matches at Majors are never easy.

ā€œWe are in the 3rd round of the first Grand Slam of the year. I cannot expect an easy challenger in front (of me),ā€ added Nadal. ā€œNorrie will not be an easy adversary.ā€

Why did the woman show Nadal her middle finger at the Australian Open.

Woman gives the middle finger to Rafael Nadal during his second round match vs. Mmoh.

Rafael Nadal and his funny response after a woman shows him the middle finger at the 2021 Australian Open.

Michael Mmoh and Rafael Nadal have just gotten themselves in a rather bizarre situation. While they were playing the 2nd round of the 2021 Australian Open, their match was interrupted as a woman started to act rather strangely.

The woman was making loud sounds when Nadal was about to serve to interrupt the game. Ultimately, when she was asked to stop, she pointed the middle finger to the Spanish superstar. The situation was so unreal that Rafa started having problems controlling his laughter. Eventually, the woman was removed from the stadium.

Rafael Nadal went on to defeat Michael Mmoh in that match in straight sets.

Rafael Nadal sports a million dollar Richard Mille limited edition

While Rafael Nadalā€™s new collaboration with Richard Mille for their iconic watches may be a few months old at this point, it appears he wore something spectacular this week ā€“ a completely new, special edition of the model, maybe.

This is what most Rafa fans were thinking but the top brass at Richard Mille clarified that it was the very same watch with some design tweaks. What were the design changes?

On a closer inspection a new strap seems to be in play. Watch strap is a greater deal than it sounds. While some watch buffs equate the strap to a carā€™s tires ā€“ practical and replaceable ā€“ Nadal makes the case that the strap is more like a refreshing and new paint job.

And while Nadalā€™s customary lagoon-blue strap played smartly with the watchā€™s red and orange accents, his brand-new white strap notches up the contrast, makes the case seem darker in context and turns a once groovy and vibrant piece into something basically monochromatic.

What is unique in the Richard Mille model that Rafa is sporting?

Rafa wears a Richard Mille RM 27-04 and let us analyse what is so unique about it.

With the role of the strap understood, let us get down to valuing this particular piece. Richard Milleā€™s innovative design genius is noteworthy as they took a steel cable and strung it back and forth across the watchā€™s dial until it mirrored the design of a tennis racquet. The designā€™s motivation might be rather apparent, but Richard Mille found a way to make it practical, by using the cables as a stabilising influence for the watchā€™s movement. Thatā€™s the type of creativity that makes this ā€“ factually ā€“ a million-dollar watch.

How much is this Nadal watch valued at?

According to Haute Time, Nadal is currently sporting a custom-made Richard Mille watch called the RM 27-04 Tourbillon Rafael Nadal.

The watch is valued at $1,000,500, and there are only fifty of them available.

Nadal is a big emissary for Richard Mille and one of the very few athletes who are comfortable to wear their watch while participating in professional sport.

Why is Rafael Nadal’s watch so pricey?

Rafael Nadal’s Richard Mille RM 27-04 Tourbillon is literally a James Bond in the watch industry.

The case is made of a brand new material limited to the watchmaking brand, TitaCarb which unites extreme endurance and lightness.

The similarity between a Formula 1 car and a Richard Mille watch is what justifies the price tag.

Rafael Nadal can be seen sporting this watch at the 2021 Australian Open.

Nadal Shatters Top 10 Ranking Consistency World Record

Just a few weeks ahead of the Australian Open 2021, Rafael Nadal has quietly shattered yet another world record that may never even come close to being touched by any of his peers. One of the most consistent players on the circuit, Rafa has dodged injuries and really tough competition to achieve yet another milestone in his tennis career – 800 consecutive weeks (5600 days) within the ATP’s Top 10 rankings. While he may be trailing behind Novak Djokovic in terms of Masters 1000 wins, Rafa has levelled Roger Federer’s – once seemingly impossible – record of twenty Grand Slams & unlike Federer, seems to be en-route to win a few more.

The Rafael Nadal Outfit For Australian Open 2021 Unveiled

With the ATP rankings update on Monday, 18 January, Spanish tennis icon Rafael Nadal completed a staggering 800 consecutive weeks (15.3years) ranked within the Top 10 ATP players. If the figure does not shake you up at once, 800 weeks amounts to roughly 15.3 years – almost 50% of Rafa’s entire life. An additionally in context, this means that since Rafa made his professional ATP debut all the way back in 2001, he has only spent first 4 years not being a top 10 player. Rafa barged into the Top 10 on April 25, 2005, shortly after he won his first title at the French Open and the rest is history.

Djokovic Dominates Aussie Open & Nadal Rules at Roland Garros | Can 2021 Change This?

One of the greatest contributors to Rafa’s longevity at the top rankings of tennis has been his total domination on Clay. Boasting an insane thirteen titles at the Roland Garros, Rafa has earned at least 2k points from the Slam every year, helping him stay afloat even as he went down in non grand slams like the Masters 1000. While he may not have won as many of the non clay court Slams, it has been rare to see Rafa non reaching the quarterfinals/semis even in those – another indicator of his consistency over all surfaces and time.

On his way to 800 consecutive weeks, Nadal surpassed Jimmy Connorsā€™ record of 789 in November last year. He also crossed arch rival Roger Federer, who finished 734 consecutive weeks in 2016 after an unfortunate knee injury pushed him down to No. 17. Novak Djokovic on the other hand, ended a 10 year-long run from 2007-17 after suffering an elbow injury that pushed him down to a low of No. 22 in 2018. The next milestone Rafa could be looking at is the overall weeks in the Top 10 – a category topped by Federer at 931 weeks and Jimmy Connors, whose 816 weeks Nadal can easily cross in 16 weeks!

Is Rafael Nadal Planning to Abandon His Signature Sleeveless Style Again?

Rafael Nadal abandoned his autograph sleeveless look in 2009, going on to put on a more traditional on-court apparel for the next decade.

But he reverted to the singlet at the 2018 Australian Open, and has persisted with it ever since; the Spaniard has worn sleeveless shirts in each of his last three Australian Opens.

During his on-court talk with McEnroe at the 2018 Australian Open, Rafa explained why he is back to wear sleeveless shirts. ā€œI have small issues when Iā€™m playing in very hot conditions when I hit my forehand, so I like to play without the sleeves. It makes me feel younger again”, said Nadal.

Nadal sported the widely imitated grey singlet at the Australian Open two years ago, where he lost in the quarterfinals to Marin Cilic of Croatia.

Rafa had a better run the year after that, reaching the final of the 2019 Australian Open when he was seen wearing an orange sleeveless top.

Nadal wore a sleeveless shirt at the 2020 Australian Open as well, taking to the court in a bright pink singlet.

But for the 2021 Australian Open he seems poised to go back to more conventional attire, which may not be to the liking of some of his fans.

Can Medvedev Change This in 2021

Djokovic Dominates Aussie Open & Nadal Rules at Roland Garros | Can Medvedev Change This in 2021?

Djokovic Dominates Aussie Open & Nadal Rules at Roland Garros | Can Daniil Medvedev Change This in 2021?

Rafael Nadal finding it ā€˜difficultā€™ to ā€˜solveā€™ the Novak Djokovic riddle on Australian Open hard courts.

It quite similar to how Novak Djokovic would feel against Rafael Nadal on clay courts – especially Roland Garros.

Rafael Nadal is yet to overcome the Novak Djokovic challenge on the Australian Open hard courts”, in the words of former WTA world No 1 Lindsay Davenport.

The duo met in the final of the Australian Open in 2019, but Djokovic demolished his fierce rival 6ā€“3, 6ā€“2, 6ā€“3 in just over 2 hours while their only other encounter in Melbourne Park was way back at the 2012 final when Djokovic won a five-setter in a marathon 5 hours and 53 minutes.

The overall hard-court head to head statistics are also pointing clearly in favour of the Serb as he leads the head-to-head count 20-7.

Defending champion Djokovic will be eyeing his 9th title in Melbourne at the 2021 Australian Open and many believe Nadal will again be his toughest road block, but Davenport feels the Spaniard is yet to device a game plan to beat the world No 1 in Australia.

It just seems like when Rafa gets to the end of the tournament and he has to face the world no. 1 Novak Djokovic his body is held up. Novakā€™s a superior hard-court player in those conditions for some strange reason and itā€™s been tough for Rafa to solve that.

Renowned tennis coach Paul Annacone also acknowledges that he wonā€™t bet on Rafael Nadal to win the 2021 Australian Open should the 20-time Grand Slam winner face Djokovic in any round. The only miracle that could work in Nadal’s favor is that he doesn’t have to face Novak at any stage. In other words a 2021 Australian Open final with Nadal facing any other opponent other than Djockovic is the only scenario when the Spaniard can add one more to his 20 titles.

ā€œI think very simply, Rafa is just a little bit worse on hard court than Novak in particular and Roger [Federer] as well on a faster hard court,ā€ he said. ā€œBut everyone else Iā€™d put him ahead of. If he plays Novak at the end of the tournament, Iā€™m not betting on him. But if he plays anyone else Iā€™ll bet on him. I think the biggest thing for Nadal is to get through the first week relatively comfortablyā€ in the words of coach Paul Annacone.
