Raducanu’s Surgery Was Best Decision for Her Long-Term Health

Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, has undergone surgery on both of her wrists. The surgery was performed on May 4, 2023, and Raducanu is expected to be out of action for several months.

Raducanu has been dealing with wrist pain for the past 10 months. She tried to manage the pain with rest and rehabilitation, but it eventually became too much. She withdrew from the Madrid Open in April due to the injury, and she decided to have surgery after consulting with doctors.

The surgery was a success, and Raducanu is expected to make a full recovery. However, she will be out of action for several months, which means she will miss the French Open and Wimbledon.

Raducanu’s coach, Torben Beltz, said that the surgery was the best decision for her long-term health. “We had to make a decision,” Beltz said. “We could have tried to manage the pain, but it was only going to get worse. The surgery was the best option.”

Raducanu is disappointed to miss the French Open and Wimbledon, but she is focused on her recovery. “I’m obviously disappointed to miss the French Open and Wimbledon,” Raducanu said. “But I’m confident that I’ll be back stronger than ever.”

Raducanu is expected to begin rehabilitation in the next few weeks. She is targeting a return to competition in the fall.
