Novak Djokovicā€™s view on Naomi Osakaā€™s stance on post-match pressers

Novak Djokovicā€™s view on Naomi Osakaā€™s stance on post-match pressers : Novak Djokovic says he realizes press conferences after competitions can be unpleasant, after Naomi Osaka said she will not take questions from reporters this year at Roland Garros.

The women’s number two seed said it is unreasonable to expect players to respond to questions after a loss, claiming it amounts to “kicking a person while they are already down”.

She also stated that the impact is negative on a player’s psychological health, and although she anticipates to be severely fined for not appearing at media conferences during the French Open this year, she hopes that money will be given to a mental health aid organizations.

Some experts are of the opinion that while Naomi Osaka enjoys press conferences in good times, she may have to learn to face the tougher side of the media when she is on the losing end. This is part of sportsperson’s life across all categories of sports.

However Naomi’s fans are on her side on this and expect the authorities to make some exceptions.

Novak Djokovicā€™s Sumo wrestling secret exposed on his 34th Birthday

Novak Djokovicā€™s Sumo wrestling secret exposed on his 34th Birthday: Novak Djokovic has proven himself as the worldā€™s best tennis player with 79 ATP titles to his name. He is the one who broke the Federer Nadal domination in Grand Slam finals by winning the 2008 Grand Slam title when he trounced Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Novak Djokovic has turned 34 today (22 May 2021) and he had his ā€œhappy birthdayā€ from all over the world. The Serbian legend received a very special message from Japan. Not many would know that Djokovicā€™s love for Sumo wrestling led him into an interesting situation in Japan in 2019. At that time Djokovic was preparing for the Japan Open when he challenged sumo actor and former pro sumo wrestler Yoshinori Tashiro.

Novak had one of his most amusing challenges when he tried to force around (with zilch success) the Japanese wrestler who eventually didnā€™t forget that it was Djokovicā€™s birthday.

It was soon after revealed that the Novak Djokovic has chosen a strange way to warm up ahead of the Japan Open Tennis Championship, taking on retired sumo professionals who speed-coached him a few wrestling movements. It was also disclosed that Djokovic visited Ryogoku Edo-Noren, a restaurant facility with a dohyō, a sumo tussling ring where the Serb wrestled with sumo professionals.

At present Novak Djokovic is about to start his crusade in Belgrade, where he is the hot favourite to secure the title. The Serbian superstar had a terrific run in Rome where he was halted in the final by a Rafael Nadal after it gritty 3-setter.

Novak is understandably seeded number 1 in Belgrade, with Frenchman Gael Monfils being the seed no.2. Djokovic was disappointed in the first edition of this event that was staged in April when he was defeated in the semifinals by Asla Karatsev.

Teenage meets Experience as Coco Gauff and Barty Lock Horns

Teenage meets Experience as Coco Gauff and Barty Lock Horns

Teenage meets Experience as Coco Gauff and Barty Lock Horns: Ashleigh Barty and Cori Gauff are going to lock horns in the quarter-final in Rome. The American teen sensation has stunned the fans with a couple of exceptional wins against the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Maria Sakkari.

Challenging Ashleigh Barty will be another daunting task for Coco Gauff, but she is not the only one that will be very cautious about that match since the Barty may also be sensing the clear and present danger that Coco poses.

After defeating Veronika Kudermetova, Ash Barty talked about tackling Coco Gauff and why the American rising star is such a tough opponent.

ā€œCoco has demonstrated that she enjoys to bring her best tennis against the performers that challenge her the most. Sheā€™s played an excellent tournament thus far. Sheā€™s got the capability to take the game on. Sheā€™s assertive, she can run, she can trust her legs,ā€ said Barty.

ā€œI think itā€™s going to be crucial for me to try to get the game back on my terms as frequently as possible. I know when things start to go her way, the way she likes to play, sheā€™s very dangerous and terrific at what she does. I think itā€™s going to be a brand new challenge, a fresh slate for both of us.ā€

Barty on her part has looked almost unstoppable since resuming the tour after a nearly one-year break. The Aussie juggernaut has been on a roll through the first quarter of 2021, accumulating titles at the Yarra Valley Classic, Miami and Stuttgart.

She did stumble at the final obstacle in Madrid, but Barty seems to be competing with rekindled vigor in Rome. Barty has registered dominating wins in her first couple of rounds, trouncing Yaroslava Shvedova and Charleston champion Veronika Kudermetova while giving away no more than six games per match.

Up next for Barty is the lively Coco Gauff, whose ball-striking and intelligence contradict her age.

Gauff has had a good start to the year, marked with a few notable performances here and there. A semifinal appearance at Adelaide and a couple of quarterfinals at Dubai and Charleston have propelled her to a career-top ranking of No. 35.

The 17-year-old has carried some of her impetus into Rome too. She began her campaign this week with a 3-set win over the tricky Yulia Putintseva. Denying to show any fatigue, Gauff battled for another 3 sets to oust seventeenth seed Maria Sakkari.

The American went on to record the 3rd top-10 win of her career in the Round of 16, as she dispatched Madrid champion Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.

It is but obvious that Gauff would have got a huge boost of confidence with her recent accomplishments. She would now be considering her prospects of an upset against Barty too.

Ashleigh Barty and Coco Gauff will be meeting for the first time on the tour when they clash in Rome.

Given the stunning form she is in at the moment, Ashleigh Barty is the favourite to triumph in this battle of youth and experience. The Aussie’s incredible foot speed and diversity make her a perilous opponent for anybody on clay.

She has been serving well in this tournament, as is apparent from the 9 aces and 80% first-serve success rate she delivered against Kudermetova. Barty’s return game was also remarkable in the match, as she converted 6 of the 7 break point opportunities she got.

The top world seed has been doing practically everything right, and looks determined to grab her 2nd claycourt title of the year.

However, Coco Gauff will pose a unique challenge altogether. The teenager can move fast on clay and is a tenacious competitor, who has already acquired the art of being persistent before pulling the trigger.

Those qualities were noticeable in Gauff’s decisive win over the in-form Sabalenka, where she had 80% conversion on break points. She would be keen to remain in the same form against Barty.

That said, Barty is just too strong at this point in time. Gauff may have the means to make the match a contest, but continuously dealing with the Aussie’s slice-and-dropshot sequence might be too daunting a task for her at this age. That said this match can go either way, and the better player of the day will come out the winner.

GarbiƱe Muguruza Thigh Injury Haunts Her in Madrid.

The former top seed had been training in Madrid for the last week in an effort to get back to full fitness, but said in a statement she’s just not physically fit to participate.

“This is the harshest of the news and the most agonizing decision any player has to make,” Muguruza said. “We have been training hard to recuperate and be able to get to the tournament well, I came a week before time to acclimatise because I was looking ahead to doing well this year in Madrid, at my home and before my native audience.

“But the pain is back and the last MRI has established that I have not recuperated 100% to play and the medical advice is to stop.”

The 10th-seeded Spaniard was slated to face American Sloane Stephens in an initial-round clash of Grand Slam winners.

The 27-year-old Muguruza was in a commanding position against Yulia Putintseva 6-0, 2-2 in the Charleston round of 16 prior to this month when she was compelled to retire from the match after suffering the leg injury. Muguruza has not competed since and did not reveal when she may be ready to return.

Madrid Open without Serena Williams Leads to Favourites Shuffle

Madrid Open without Serena Williams Leads to Favourites Shuffle

Madrid Open without Serena Williams Leads to Favourites Shuffle.

The Madrid Open is happening this week, with thirty-nine of the worldā€™s top forty womenā€™s players in action.

2-time champion Serena Williams is the only prominent absentee for this yearā€™s draw as she continues to recuperate from oral surgery.

Thereā€™s a come-back, however, for Britainā€™s Johanna Konta, who skipped the Billie Jean King Cup play-offs recently with a knee injury but has recovered fully and is back for the clay-court season.

The event is taking place ahead of next monthā€™s Roland Garros and represents an opportunity for a number of players to find form and confidence ahead of tennisā€™ 2nd Grand Slam of 2021.

Here are 5 of the favourites leading into the Madrid Open:

Ashleigh Barty

Current world number one Ashleigh Barty won her 3rd title of the season at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart last week, fortifying her position at the pinnacle of the rankings.

The Australian had a difficult start to 2021, going down to Karoline Muchova in her home Grand Slam and bowing out in the first-round at the Adelaide Invitational, but has apparently rediscovered her erstwhile form and is playing with more freedom.

Barty has also come out victorious in her last ten matches against top-ranking opposition, showing that she has taken her game to a next level.

Naomi Osaka

Four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka was looking poised to dislodge Barty at world number one earlier this month but endured a shock quarter final defeat to Maria Sakkari in the Miami Open.

This ended a twenty three match winning run for the Japanese star, who hadnā€™t lost since February 2020 prior to the upcoming competition.

Osaka hasnā€™t appeared since but will be eager to put together another run of form ahead of Grand Slam in Paris. The twenty three-year-old has labored on clay so far in her career though and is yet to win a accolade on the surface so far.

Simona Halep

Though she is ranked lower than Osaka and Barty, Halep is by far the most well-off on clay courts and has made it to 18 finals on the surface, winning 9 titles.

She has played in Madrid Open finals 4 times, including back-to-back victories in 2016 and 2017. The Romanian will therefore be confident of winning for a third time this time around.

However, the 2-time major winner did suffer loss to Aryna Sabalenka last week in the semi finals at Stuttgart and is still yet to win a competition this year.

Petra KvitovĆ”

KvitovĆ” is the most effective performer in the history of the Madrid Open, having won the contest three times, most recently in 2018.

In this way, itā€™s difficult to look past the Czech star as a challenger, in spite of her falling out of the top 10 of the world rankings.

Intriguingly, 3 of KvitovĆ”ā€™s five wins came at the Madrid Open, and the former world number two has never advanced further than the 4th round of the French Open in yearā€™s sheā€™s won in the Spanish capital.

Veronika Kudermetova

Kudermetova isnā€™t even seeded at this yearā€™s event, but just few weeks back won her maiden WTA title at the Charleston Open, where she beat Danka Kovinić.

In that tournament, the Russian didnā€™t drop a set and was on a roll all week.

Itā€™s obvious that clay is her favoured surface and at 24-years-of-age, it seems the world ranked 28 is starting to enter her prime, so could certainly spring a shocker or two in Madrid.

Top tennis stars and their stance on getting vaccinated

Top tennis stars and their stance on getting vaccinated

Top tennis stars and their stance on getting vaccinated – Cori Gauff, Nadal, Serena, Barty & Naomi in focus.

Cori Gauff and Rafael Nadal are very clear about their views on the vaccine: they would like to be vaccinated when itā€™s feasible.

The American teenager had a Q&A style interview on Instagram and when asked about if she wants to be vaccinated, she answered that she has all the plans to get a shot saying ā€œI believe in science.ā€

Rafael Nadal also voiced his readiness to get a vaccine.

The King of Clay was especially discouraged, notably during the initial part of the pandemic, and he believes that everything has to be done to halt this dreadful virus.

During a latest press conference in Monte Carlo, the world number 3 remarked:

ā€œVaccine is the only answer to go beyond the pandemic. We need to understand that. I know a few people have side effects, but the coronavirus effects are fatal. I will get my jab as soon as I can.ā€

Serena Williams has been known to have full faith in science and vaccinations.

In October 2009 the world followed her while she visited Ghana, where she joined health workers and volunteers giving children vaccines against measles and other diseases. One can very well image his positive mindset towards the Coronavirus vaccination!

Andy Murray went on record, as early as November 2020, to state his opinion on the vaccination. He said then that it should be made mandatory for players to be vaccinated before participating in any tennis tournaments.

On 31st March 2021, both the top seeds Ash Barty and Naomi Osaka threw their support behind receiving the vaccine when they are eligible.

While many players have full faith in science some other high profile tennis players are got different views.

Novak Djokovic is not known to be a fan of vaccines. Having said that and despite his opinion many believe that he will make an exception in the case of the ongoing pandemic.

Many other younger and high profile players such as Andrey Rublev, Diego Schwartzman, Elina Svitolina and Aryna Sabalenka didnā€™t sound as keen as Coco Gauff and Rafael Nadal and others to get vaccinated.

As of now, both the ATP and the WTA tours are just urging their players to be vaccinated if they can.

Muguruza abandons her second match in Charleston due to a leg injury.

Garbine Muguruza, world no. 12, looked in great shape and form in Charleston.
She sailed past Magdalena Frech 6-1 6-3 in the first round, and she overpowered Yulia Putintseva in the following round to also lead 6-0 2-2. Then just out of the blue, Muguruza took a medical timeout, and when she returned she retired from the match, leaving everyone stunned.

Ultimately, after the match, the Spanish champion explained that she suffered a sharp pain in her left leg. She had the same problem in the first match, but she chose to keep on playing. Nevertheless, this time she opted to call it a day to avoid triggering any more damage.

ā€œI was already experiencing some pain in my opening round match. The shift of hard courts to clay was harsh and in a very brief amount of time. I began very well, and then unexpectedly I felt a strong pain in my leg, and it got worse. I didnā€™t want to go on without performing my best tennis. It didnā€™t feel right to me,ā€ said Muguruza after the match.

This reminds us of the period in 2017-18 when she used to frequently get leg cramps and had to withdraw from many tournaments. Her fans are hoping that he medical team can address her injury issues swiftly and effectively this time.

Garbine is not slated to play any event in the next two weeks. She will be back to contest in Madrid. The contest will start on the 26th of April. She is likely to be totally fit by that date.
