Mike Tyson’s judgment on the tennis goat debate | Djokovic, Nadal or Federer?

Mike Tyson’s judgment on the tennis goat debate – The boxing legend is an ardent follower of tennis, and habitually attends the US Open and Indian Wells.

On the lighter side Iron Mike did convey his views on the Goat debate. The players in contention were (and have been for a long time) Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Amongst the 3 of them they have a combined 63 Grand Slams!

He was spotted watching the women’s goat Serena Williams earlier this year, and that is where and when he discussed about who he feels is the best man to play the sport.

Two years ago, Mike Tyson felt that Novak Djokovic was the king of tennis.

He said: “Novak Djokovic is my choice at the moment.

“If he is okay, I truly like to watch him play. He is my favourite because of the way he comes back from injury and beats competitors like Nadal and Federer. He is all angles a true fighter.”

In the wake of Roger Federer’s larger than life retirement last month, the 56-year-old Tyson had slightly change in opinion.

He told the Advantage Connors podcast: “Djokovic, unquestionably, and Federer. Talking about Djokovic, he bounced back from all those injuries. You know, I love Novak Djokovic personally but I’m just a big fan of Roger Federer. When Federer was in his prime, he was always moving in the air. He’s smooth. He’s truly smooth.”

Tyson had a different view when talking about 22-time the Spaniard Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal.

Talking about Rafa, he added: “Nadal was just all over the place. He’s a boundless player, but he doesn’t have a graceful game, unlike Federer who is smooth and very elegant.”

Fact is Rafael Nadal’s Grand Slam tally is the maximum in the men’s game – one ahead of 21-time winner Djokovic.

Federer, 41, retired after bagging 20 Slams – which was previously a record total before he was outdone by his rivals.

Novak Djokovic has the lead when it comes to Masters 1000 titles – his has 38 titles under his name and is two ahead of Nadal and ten more than Roger Federer’s 28.

Examining into the women’s game, Mike Tyson revealed that he is a big fan of the remarkable American teenager Cori Gauff.

He said: “I think she’s amazing. She has time on her side, a luxury which many of her peers don’t.”

Eighteen year old Cori Gauff, reached her first Grand Slam singles final at the French Open earlier this year, being defeated by world No1 Iga Swiatek.

Mike Tyson’s daughter Milan is just fourteen years old and is a budding tennis player. Milan Tyson has received coaching from Serena’s erstwhile coach Patrick Mouratoglou – with the Frenchman calling her “very talented”.

Proud dad Iron Mike Tyson went as far as to claim tennis “changed his life” after seeing his daughter, Milan Tyson, enjoy playing the sport.
