Maria Sharapova attends The Hand of God premier at the Venice Film Festival : After devoting 19 years of her life on the WTA Tour, Maria Sharapova retired from tennis in February last year.

However, the limelight continues to shine on the Russian as she made an appearance at the Venice Film Festival this week.

This is the 78th Venice Film Festival.

At the event, Sharapova attended the first night opening of the Italian movie titled, “The Hand of God”.

The Venice Film Festival kicked off on Wednesday, September 1.

Established in 1932, this is the 78th version of the iconic film competition, with 21 films from various countries selected by a clever jury.

Among those 21 movies features the Italian picture, “The Hand of God”. While the title shares a stunning resemblance to the name given to Diego Maradona’s notorious goal in the 1986 FIFA World Cup, the film is about something totally different!

Directed by Paolo Sorrentino, the film portrays a special story from the days of his youth.

The two hour 10 minutes film debut was in Venice at the festival, with Sharapova standing out amongst those in attendance.

She sported a black dress to the festival, and took to Instagram and twitter to share a few photos of her from the event.

Along with the photographs, she penned, “Venice Film Festival at the premiere of Paulo Sorrentino’s The Hand of God.”
