Kate Middleton, a keen tennis fan, met with US Open winner Emma Raducanu at the National Tennis Centre for a homecoming event.

The Duchess of Cambridge played a match with the teen tennis sensation at the National Tennis Centre in London

The Royal mother of three looked appropriately sporty in a blue tennis skirt and matching zip-up jacket for the event.

Kate, 39, who has come back to work following her annual summer break, looked suitably sporty in a blue tennis skirt and matching zip-up tracksuit jacket from French sportswear brand Poivre Blanc for the visit at the National Tennis Centre in London.

Appearing similarly ready for their match, teammate 18 year old Emma Raducanu, who became the first woman from Britain to win a grand slam title for 44 years when she bagged the US Open title earlier this month, just weeks after collecting her A-level results, donned a blue T-shirt and white shorts for the outing.

Kate and Emma were teamed up for their opening shots before switching to opposite sides of the court to play with other British US Open champions, Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid, who won the men’s wheelchair doubles, and men’s doubles champion Joe Salisbury.

Kate Middleton is a patron of the Lawn Tennis Association’s (LTA), which organised the homecoming event to rejoice the accomplishments of the UK’s stars at the recent grand slam, with a 30-minute show of the action aired on BBC Sport online and BBC iPlayer.

The duchess was part of the homecoming celebration, hosted by the LTA Youth programme, in which the 4 champions, as well as the royal, were on court together with children taking part in the programme.

The LTA youth programme is an innovative initiative aimed at inspiring the next generation of players aged 4-18, as well as assisting more children enjoy the benefits of playing and staying in tennis, irrespective of their age, gender, ability or background.

Sitting down to meet with the US Open champions, Kate gushed: ‘Amazing guys, honestly. Congratulations. Seriously impressive. It’s been so nice for all of you to come back here in your home country to celebrate back home.’

Along with the tennis court appearances, the event included a live Question & Answers and a host of tennis activities – giving fans and players of all ages an opportunity to get up and close to their sporting heroes and hoping to motivate a new wave of players to start their tennis journey.

Emma beat Leylah Fernandez 6-4 6-3 at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York earlier this month to become Great Britain’s first female grand slam winner in forty four years.
