Day 7 of the 2022 Miami Open witnessed most of the top-ranked players move forward, with a few exceptions.

Jannik Sinner saves 5 match points

Jannik Sinner fought back from the brink of defeat as he saved 5 match points to turn the match around and over Pablo Carreno Busta’s challenge.

Iga Swiatek dessimates Brengle

Iga Swiatek continued to flatten her challengers, winning another match without breaking a sweat. She literally crushed Brengle to win her 13th consecutive match. Iga Swiatek displays no signs of decelerating. Having secured the World No. 1 ranking, the 20-year-old put up one more dominating performance by defeating Madison Brengle 6-0, 6-3. Swiatek intends to win her 3rd successive WTA 1000 title of the season, having already tasted success in Qatar and Indian Wells.

Paula Badosa eliminates Yulia Putintiseva

Paula Badosa routed out Yulia Putintiseva in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Putintseva actually made a confident start to the match as she didn’t allow the Spaniard a single break point in her first three service games. In the 7th game, Putintseva missed out on game points and paid the price as Badosa grabbed her opportunity and there was no looking back after that.

Coco Gauff’s strong resolve on display again

Gauff survived a strong challenge from Zhang. As expected, Coco Gauff was put to the test by some exceptional play by Zhang Shuai, but the teenager eventually came out on top 7-6(1), 7-5. Both contestants were equally matched for the better part of the contest, but the American proved her resolve in the key moments to edge out her adversary for the win.

Nick Kyrgios literally destroyed Fabio Fognini in Miami

Fognini didn’t stand a chance as Kyrgios transformed all his break point opportunities, all while not permitting the Italian a single break point chance. Kyrgios has been playing fantastic tennis lately as in Indian Wells he reached the quarterfinal before going down in a tight contest to Rafael Nadal. A deep run in Indian Wells has boosted Kyrgios’ confidence and he has come to Miami determined to make a strong result.
