Petra Kvitova’s previous triumph over Garbine Muguruza was in the final of the 2018 Qatar Open, and she will enter this match high on confidence looking to repeat that result.
The Czech loves playing in Qatar; in fact, she had more successes here than any other player in the 2021 draw. And while she wasn’t in the finest form at the beginning of the tournament, Kvitova didn’t take much time to find her stride.
She has improved through this tournament and looked especially intimidating on return.
Deploying her serve as her most precious weapon will be particularly critical for Muguruza, who has struck the ball efficiently for the most part herself. The Spaniard has also had a day off at the back of Azarenka’s withdrawal, and will be well restored for the final.
It is expected that both women will play tennis at the level they have showcased all week. And that being the case this could be a classic final in the making.
Muguruza will have to be on her guard from the word go and not let Kvitova get off to a quick start. If the Czech is able to break through the Spaniard’s defence early then it is likely that the match would slip away from her.
