Can Tsitsipas overpower Nadal and avenge his loss from 2 years back?

Stefanos Tsitsipas will hope to gain retribution on Rafa Nadal and end the Spaniard’s bid for a historic 21st Grand Slam title when they clash in the 2021 Australian Open quarter-final, a rematch of their meeting in the same tournament two years ago.

The Greek made his Grand Slam leap forward at Melbourne Park two years back, beating Roger Federer in the 4th round before his noteworthy run was terminated in merciless fashion by Nadal, who conceded just six games.

Tsitsipas has since cemented himself in the top 10, winning the 2019 ATP Finals, but the 22-year-old will have his job cut out against Rafael Nadal, who has won 6 of their 7 meetings.

Thirty four year old Rafael Nadal, has had a gloomy start in 2021 on the fitness front as a lower back strain forced him to miss the ATP Cup. However he seems to be improving and he moves into the quarter finals without the loss of a set.

“I was able to win 4 games already, so now I’m going to have a very strong challenger and need to play my best,” Nadal said after his 4th-round annihilation of Fabio Fognini.

“I’m excited. If we evaluate how I was 5 days ago and now, it’s not the same, my point of view and exhilaration is different too.”
