Serena Williams Eyes 8th Australian Open Title While Training Hard With Sister Venus
The superstar Williams sisters commence training in Adelaide ahead of the first Grand Slam of the year – The 2021 Australian Open.
With just 3 weeks to go for the 2021 Australian Open, players are starting their preparations inside the bubbles. In a pre-isolated location in Adelaide, sisters Serena Williams and Venus Williams are keeping themselves busy in their training sessions.
Previously, the Australia bubble in Adelaide planned to host the top three men and women in tennis, along with Serena. However, a subsequent update permitted the players’ hitting partners to occompany them. And that is how the sister superstars Venus and Serena got an opportunity to train with each other again.
They used a white minivan from their assigned hotel to come directly to the training centre. Serena’s coach Patrick Mouratoglou accompanied them there. They were spotted wearing their training attire as well as the mandatory mask in the pictures before going inside.
According to Venus Williams (7-time Grand Slam winner), she and Serena had stopped training together a long time ago. But given the protocols and the emerging situation surrounding the pandemic, it made practical sense for them to join forces again.
During the 2-weeks of quarantine, a player and their training partner will be allowed 5 hours every day for training.
Since there are tournaments that are happening ahead of the Australian Open, the players’ who have been denied training time will be on the disadvantage.
On the contrary, for Serena Williams (23-time Grand Slam winner and her elder sister, the conditions couldn’t be better. Training with Venus will definitely assist Serena to hit the ground running at the Slam.
The 40-year-old Venus Williams is yet to win a singles event of the Australian Open. However, in the doubles’ event with her sister as partner, she has have won the title 4 times in the past. Additionally, Venus also has a Mixed Double Australian Open title alongwith Justin Gimelstob.
On the other hand, Serena has bagged the singles’ title in Melbourne Park 7 times. In fact her 23rd and latest Grand Slam came at the 2017 edition of the Australian Open. Looking forward, Serena will be eyeing her 24th title at the 2021 Australian Open!
It is refreshing to see both Serena and Venus still carrying the fire for tennis in them. Hopefully, the 2021 season will turn out to be a great year for them.
